In accordance with Massachusetts’ General Laws, the Chelsea Assessing Department has conducted a revaluation of all real and personal property, effective for the current fiscal year, 2009. The standard for assessments is “Full and Fair Cash Value”, as of January 1, 2008. In order to achieve that standard, the Department has collected and analyzed market data of various types. This includes the sales of the various types of property in Chelsea, as well as income and expense data used in valuing certain types of commercial and industrial properties. These values are available for examination at this web-site or in the Assessing Department, Room 211 City Hall, during normal office hours.

The Fiscal Year 2009 tax rates have been approved by the Department of Revenue:

Residential: $ 10.80

Residential Exemption: $662.80

Commercial: $ 23.96

Abatement applications for Fiscal Year 2009 must be received by the Assessing Department on or before February 2, 2009.
